Who we are
This website, circle-slash.com, is operated by Karl Talbot, trading as Unhinged Games. Karl Talbot is the controller responsible for the personal information described in this notice. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
This notice explains how we use personal information when you visit our website, read our development blog or contact us. It covers this website; any separately distributed game or third-party platform may have its own privacy information. We handle personal information in accordance with applicable UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
Information we collect and why
- Website and security information: IP addresses, browser and device information, requested pages, request times and error or security events may be processed by our server and Cloudflare. We use this to deliver pages, diagnose problems, prevent abuse and protect the website. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in running a secure, reliable website.
- Enquiries: if you email us, we receive your email address, name if provided, message and any attachments. We use these to answer your enquiry and keep necessary correspondence. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in responding to people who contact us, or taking steps at your request before entering a contract where relevant.
- Comments: if you submit a WordPress comment, we receive the details you enter, your IP address and browser information. We use these to moderate comments and prevent spam, relying on legitimate interests in managing discussion and protecting the site. Approved comments and the display name you supply may be public; your email address is not displayed as part of the comment. The current theme does not display a public comment form.
- Authorised website accounts: WordPress stores account details, email addresses, profile information and authentication data for people authorised to manage the site. These support site administration and security, on the basis of legitimate interests. Public account registration is currently disabled.
- Legal obligations: where we must keep or disclose information to meet an applicable legal requirement, our lawful basis is compliance with that legal obligation.
We do not currently run advertising trackers, a newsletter sign-up or an online shop on this website. Optional Jetpack Stats analytics runs only after you choose Accept analytics in our cookie banner. It processes visit and interaction information, including IP address, browser information, pages viewed, referrer, approximate country and event times, to help us understand site use. Our lawful basis for optional analytics is consent. You can reject or withdraw it using Cookie settings in the footer. We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information for decisions made solely by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Cookies and similar technologies
The website uses WordPress and Cloudflare. Cookies used depend on which features you access:
- WordPress login: a temporary cookie checks whether your browser accepts cookies and lasts for the browser session. Authentication cookies normally last two days, or two weeks if “Remember Me” is selected. Logging out removes the login cookies.
- WordPress administration: screen preference cookies may last one year. An editing cookie identifying the post being edited may last one day. These relate to authorised users, not ordinary browsing.
- Cloudflare security: Cloudflare may set cookies when checking or challenging requests to protect the site. Availability and duration depend on the security feature used. See Cloudflare’s cookie information for cookie names, purposes and expiry details.
- Optional comment preferences: if a comment form offers to remember your details and you choose this option, WordPress can store your name, email and website in cookies for up to one year. This is optional.
Optional Jetpack Stats uses tracking scripts and requests and is blocked until you accept analytics, even where it does not set a cookie. Essential cookies remember your choice for up to 180 days. See our Cookie Policy for cookie names, lifetimes and controls. We will ask for consent before using optional cookies where UK law requires it. You can remove cookies or change your browser settings at any time; blocking essential cookies may affect sign-in or security checks. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Who receives information
The website is self-hosted. Access is limited to authorised people who need it to operate and maintain the service. Cloudflare provides the connection, traffic delivery and security services between visitors and our server, so it processes technical request information. Our email provider processes correspondence when you contact us. Automattic provides Jetpack features, including optional Stats analytics and site security, activity and backup services. These services may process relevant technical information and site records, including account or comment data where present. See Automattic’s visitor privacy notice and the Jetpack Privacy Center. Automattic operates internationally and describes its transfer safeguards in its privacy policy. Information may also be disclosed to professional advisers or public authorities where necessary for legal obligations or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
Cloudflare operates internationally, so information may be processed outside the UK. Its Data Processing Addendum describes its international transfer safeguards, including standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum where applicable. Further details are in Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Contact us if you would like information about the safeguards relevant to your personal information.
Links to other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies. We do not currently embed third-party videos or social media widgets. If that changes, we will review this notice and any consent requirements before adding them.
How long we keep information
We retain information only for as long as needed for its purpose. Enquiries are kept while the issue is being handled and for any necessary follow-up or dispute period. Technical logs are retained according to operational rotation and the time needed to diagnose faults or investigate security incidents. Account details are kept while access is authorised and for any necessary security or legal follow-up. Comments, if submitted, may remain with the related discussion until removed or no longer needed.
When deciding retention, we consider the nature and sensitivity of the information, the reason it was collected, any ongoing enquiry or incident, and legal requirements. Deleted information may remain in restricted backups until those backups are replaced through the normal backup cycle. Cloudflare manages information within its services under its published terms and retention practices. Jetpack’s Stats documentation states that identifiable Stats logs are kept for 28 days; aggregate statistics may be kept longer. Consent-choice cookies last up to 180 days.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances and our lawful basis, you can ask to access your personal information, correct it, have it erased, restrict its use or receive it in a portable format. These rights are subject to legal conditions and exemptions.
Your right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation. If we ever use your information for direct marketing, you can object to that use at any time.
Send requests to [email protected]. We may ask for proportionate information to verify your identity. Requests are normally free and we normally respond within one month. If the law permits an extension or a fee in exceptional circumstances, we will explain this to you.
Complaints
If you have a concern, please contact Karl Talbot at [email protected] so we can investigate. You may also complain directly to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113, or write to Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. You do not have to contact us first to exercise your right to complain to the ICO.
Providing information and keeping it safe
You can read the website without sending an enquiry or creating an account. Technical request information is necessary to deliver and protect the site. Providing contact details is voluntary, but without a way to reply we may be unable to answer you. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information or including private details in anything intended for publication.
We use access restrictions and encrypted connections to protect information, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. This website is not intended to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has supplied information that should be removed, please contact us.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when our use of information or the website’s services changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
